Earlier this week, one of the Fighting Irish's top of the board targets for the 2024 Recruiting class came off the board, as 5 Star Defensive Lineman out of St. Ignatius High School in Chicago, IL verbally committed to The Ohio State Buckeyes over the likes of Michigan, Notre Dame, Miami, & Georgia. This comes as a shock to everyone in Irish Nation, as reports over the last week was that it was a Michigan-Notre Dame Battle for the Illinois product.

Now, what happened in this recruitment? According to Hayes Fawcett, Social Media Football recruiting expert for On3 " The 5-star DL texted me while on his official visit to Michigan that he'd be committing July 2nd." Evidently, the buzz the past week about Scott and the Wolverines was absolutely true, as Scott himself stated " Going into the (Ohio State) visit, my family was heavily set on Michigan. Throughout the (Ohio State) visit they were really still set on Michigan. But towards the end of it, Coach (Larry) Johnson sat us down & went over an in depth plan that they had for me." This was what led Scott to end up in the Buckeyes' 2024 recruiting class, and this is a huge loss to say the least for an Irish team that was a lock to land Scott just 6 months ago, to end up in 3rd place for the 5-star talent.

Finally, where do the Irish go from here? It has been reported over the last few weeks that Notre Dame was trying to get Scott on campus at the end of July for the big Notre Dame Cookout Recruiting Weekend, as of right now nothing is official on if he plans to attend or not. However, after his commitment I doubt this comes to fruition, the key here still is for Notre Dame to keep on Scott and get him to take his Notre Dame official visit to the Ohio State game on September 23rd, if ND can get him on campus and have an impressive showing against the Buckeyes in a win, maybe that is enough to flip Scott. Overall, this has been a very up and down recruitment for Marcus Freeman and the rest of the Irish staff, and they have a huge hill to climb to get Scott's signature on National Signing Day. We will have to wait and see if the Irish target any other DL Prospects in the 2024 Class, but as of right now that seems doubtful.
