Notre Dame Hockey has unveiled their specialty uniforms for the 2024 Friendship Four, which will be held in the capital city of Belfast, located in Northern Ireland. Notre Dame will play its first game there against Harvard, followed up by either Merrimack or Boston University.
The uniforms are already receiving raving opinions from Notre Dame and hockey fans across social media. The specialty uniforms are inspired by the Book of Kells: "An illuminated manuscript and Celtic Gospel book in Latin,[1] containing the four Gospels of the New Testament together with various prefatory texts and tables." according to Wikipedia.
Press Release:
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - With the University of Notre Dame hockey program's first ever international trip fast approaching, the team, in partnership with Under Armour and Fanatics, have released a specialty jersey for the Friendship Four tournament in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The navy jersey features a gold script "Irish" across the chest along with a unique, stylized nameplate font specifically for the tournament. Each letter is inspired by the letter-forms seen in the historic Book of Kells.
The numbers on the back and both sleeves of the jersey are also inspired by those found in the Book of Kells, with the numbers adorning the back of the sweater featuring the Notre Dame Celtic Knot running through the center.
The shoulder patches are a design specific for the tournament with a specialized celtic knot woven into the shape of two hockey sticks and face-off circles, representing the two games set to be played by the Irish in Belfast.
