Notre Dame Rolls Past Purdue in Big Victory

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- In their first true road game of the season, the No. 3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish rolled past the Purdue Boilermakers in a 49-10 victory.
The Irish got out to an early lead and never looked back, holding the Boilermakers 90 total yards of offense in the first half.
The Irish got the scoring started with another big play by Micah Gilbert, a 27-yard touchdown catch, who followed his career-day last week against Michigan State with two catches for 83 yards.
The Irish also found greater success in the run game, and turned in their first 20+ yard rush of the season on a 22-yard touchdown run by Aneyas Williams. Williams, who was stripped of his starting role this week, led the Notre Dame running back room with 14 carries and 80 yards.
CJ Carr turned in a four touchdown performance this week including three passing touchdowns to Gilbert, Nolan James Jr. and Cooper Flanagan.
Carr finished 14/22 for 237 yards, with his sole blemish being his first interception of the season a poor-decision throw on 3rd down.
While the offense accumulated six scoring drives, it was the Notre Dame defense that continues to be the star of the show.
The Fighting Irish defense had six sacks, one of which was a strip-sack fumble by DE Bryce Young that LB Drayk Bowen returned for a touchdown. This marked the third game this season where the Notre Dame defense scored a touchdown, and Chris Ash's unit continues to shine every week they take the field.
Young continues to break out for the Notre Dame defense accounting for two sacks in this one and four total tackles.
Entering this game, the Purdue offense averaged 39.3 points per game and 366.7 yards of total offense. The Irish held starting Purdue QB Ryan Browne to 111 passing yards and halted the explosive Boilermaker offense.
In the end, Notre Dame aces another opportunity and continues to develop into one of the best teams in the country.
