Freshman Markus Burton has won ACC Rookie Of The Year.

Freshman guard Markus Burton exploded on the Notre Dame scene as a freshman in 2023, but has only turned on the burners even more in the second half of the season in 2024, heading into Georgia Tech. Burton leads the ACC in steals per game (2.2), 3rd in assists per game (4.8), and 6th in points per game (17.5). Burton is the only freshman in the country averaging at least 17 points, 4 assists and 2 steals a game. He broke the freshman scoring record with 535 points, and had a career-high 31 point game thus far.

“It’s really impressive with what (Markus) did, and the stats he put up when he was No. 1 on the scouting report for every single ACC game. Burton ranked in the top-six in the league in points, assists, and steals, of any class, and he got the opponent’s best defender marking him every single night,” - HC Micah Shrewsberry

Burton also earned Third Team All-ACC Honors as well as earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Markus is now the third player in Notre Dame Men's Basketball history to earn Rookie Of The Year for the program, previously won by Troy Murphy in 1999, and Chris Thomas in 2002. So more than 20 years later, Notre Dame has found another rookie gem.

Notre Dame faces off against Georgia Tech this Tuesday, March 12th in the opening round of the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament (Which Notre Dame Women's Basketball just won). Tip-off is at 2pm EST on the ACC Network.
