Albert Simien Commits to Notre Dame; Irish Pluck an Elite OL Out of SEC Country

OL Albert Simien announced his commitment to Notre Dame on Friday afternoon, live on SportsCenter, giving the Irish a huge recruiting win in the SEC’s backyard.

Simien, standing at 6-5 and around 280 pounds, chose Notre Dame over LSU, Texas A&M, Nebraska, and others. Rivals lists the elite talent as a five-star prospect, ranking as the #10 overall recruit, #2 IOL, and #2 player in Louisiana in the class of 2027. A native of Lake Charles, Simien attends Sam Houston High School.
While lining up at LT at Sam Houston, Simien projects as an IOL at Notre Dame with the natural tools to become a future early-round NFL Draft selection. On tape, the Louisianan oozes dominance and power. Using his athletic background in basketball and shot put, Simien is an elite run blocker with great mobility, which is evidenced by his ability to get to the second level with ease. He is also a consistently productive pass-blocker whose skill compensates for a slight lack of size. However, Simien does have good length, including 34-inch arms. With some lower-body bulking needed, the Irish likely just landed themselves a multi-year starter on their offensive line.
Notre Dame’s 2027 recruiting class now stands at 21 commits, including four listed OL, following Simien’s pledge. Simien also marks the Irish’s first ‘27 addition out of Louisiana.
