BREAKING: Notre Dame Lands Commitment from 4-Star DL Richie Flanigan

Notre Dame has landed a commitment from 4-Star DL Richie Flanigan, brother of current Irish TE James Flanigan, to its already impressive class of 2027. Notre Dame's pursuit of an elite defensive front on the recruiting trail continues to pay dividends.

If one thing was certain during Notre Dame's opening game against the Miami Hurricanes, it was that the Irish could certainly use some reinforcements and size on the interior of the defensive line. At 6'3" and 255 lbs as just a junior, the second Flanigan brother could be just what the doctor ordered.

Coming out of Notre Dame Academy in Green Bay, Wisconsin (the same high school as his brother), Richie Flanigan has managed to garner attention and scholarship offers from programs including Michigan, Duke, Stanford, and Wisconsin. But being a Notre Dame legacy twice over, it wasn't much of a surprise to see that Flanigan ended up choosing the Fighting Irish in the end. His father, Jim Flanigan, also played football at the University of Notre Dame in the early 1990s before being selected in the third round of the 1994 NFL Draft. Jim would play 10 seasons as a defensive tackle, earning the prestigious "Walter Payton Man of the Year" award in 2000, while collecting an impressive 46 sacks over his decade-long pro career.

Like his father, Richie is determined to be another great disruptor for the Fighting Irish and has already put together an impressive performance thus far in his high school career. Flanigan has played both Guard and Defensive Tackle for Notre Dame Academy, compiling 24 total tackles in eight games this past season. 247 Sports composite ranks him as the 291st overall player in the country, and the 14th overall player in Wisconsin.

Flanigan joins QB Teddy Jarrard and LB Ellis McGaskin as the current commits for Notre Dame in the class of 2027.
